The red gate is flipped up by hand to keep the rope out of the alloy cleat and prevent unintentional entry of the rope into the cleat. The CL238 is a modified CL219. Also available in Nylon - CL237. For larger size ropes, look at the Nylon CL239 or Aluminum CL240.
